Doctors Said the Millionaire Had Only 5 Days Left. A Struggling Mother Agreed to Stay by His Side—But What He Did Before His Final Day Left Everyone Speechless…

# PART 4 — THE FAMILY TRAP

Marcus backed away.

“How are you standing?”

Adrian didn’t answer.

He looked at me.

“Emma, leave.”

I didn’t move.

Marcus suddenly lunged toward the desk.

I grabbed Lily and ran.

Security alarms screamed through the building.

People flooded the hallway.

Marcus shouted something behind me.

Then I heard Adrian collapse.

I turned.

He was on the floor.

“Adrian!”

Two security guards rushed toward him.

Then the police arrived.

Within minutes, Marcus was arrested.

But the story didn’t end there.

Because Eleanor had already disappeared.

Dr. Reynolds was arrested the following morning.

The investigation revealed that Adrian had been deliberately overmedicated for weeks.

The drugs hadn’t been enough to kill him immediately.

They had been enough to keep him unconscious.

His family planned to wait until his death appeared natural.

Then Eleanor would collect the insurance money.

Marcus would gain control of the company.

And the financial theft Adrian had discovered would remain hidden.

But there was another surprise.

The records on the drive showed that Eleanor had arranged for me to be hired.

Not because she trusted me.

Because she expected me to be blamed.

The plan was simple.

A poor caregiver.

A millionaire who died under her supervision.

A grieving family.

A convenient suspect.

They had intended to leave the country before anyone discovered the truth.

I sat in the police station listening to the detective explain everything.

I couldn’t stop thinking about how close I had come to becoming their scapegoat.

Then Adrian entered.

He was walking slowly.

Still weak.

But alive.

“You saved me,” he said.

I shook my head.

“You saved yourself.”

“No.”

He smiled.

“You chose to believe me.”

I looked at Lily.

“She was the reason I stayed.”

Adrian knelt carefully beside the stroller.

Lily reached for his finger.

He laughed softly.

“She woke me.”

I smiled.

“She actually did.”

Adrian looked at me.

“I owe you everything.”

“You don’t owe me anything.”

He frowned.

“You gave me your job.”

“I’ll give you something better.”

He handed me an envelope.

Inside was a legal document.

I opened it.

My eyes widened.

“What is this?”

“A trust.”

“For Lily?”

“For you and Lily.”

“I can’t accept this.”

“You can.”

“No.”

He smiled.

“Then consider it payment for five days of work.”

I laughed.

“Five days?”

“You were supposed to stay for five.”

“I stayed longer.”

“I noticed.”

For the first time, I laughed without fear.

But one question remained.

“What happened to your mother?”

Adrian’s smile disappeared.

“She confessed.”

“Why?”

“Because she thought Marcus had turned against her.”

“And did he?”

“No.”

He looked out the window.

“They both betrayed each other.”
