“IF SHE DIES, CALL ME. OTHERWISE, DON’T WASTE MY TIME,” MY HUSBAND TOLD THE DOCTOR AS I LAY THERE WITH BOTH ARMS BROKEN. HE THOUGHT I COULDN’T HEAR HIM—BUT MY PHONE HAD RECORDED EVERYTHING. WHEN I OPENED MY EYES, I SMILED… BECAUSE THE POWERFUL MAN WHO WARNED ME ABOUT MY HUSBAND HAD ALREADY SET MY REVENGE IN MOTION.

“I want him to watch everything he tried to steal collapse in front of him.”

A slow smile spread across Eleanor’s face.

“The board meeting begins in twelve hours.”

“Adrian has already called for a vote to dissolve the company.”

“Are you ready to attend your own funeral?”

The next morning, Adrian stood proudly at the head of the company’s massive boardroom, surrounded by directors who had worked beside my father for decades. A bottle of champagne waited on the table as he confidently addressed everyone in attendance.

“Today…”

“…we move into a new era.”

“With my wife’s unfortunate accident…”

“…I am exercising the Sterling shares to approve the merger with Ares Global.”

One director hesitated, questioning whether selling my father’s clean-energy division betrayed everything he had spent his life building. Adrian dismissed the concern without a second thought.

“Progress often feels like betrayal to those who are stagnant.”

Vanessa stepped forward holding the document bearing my thumbprint like a trophy.

“The Sterling trust has been integrated.”

“Adrian now controls fifty-two percent of the voting power.”

“The vote is simply a formality.”

“We move to dissolve.”

A calm voice echoed through the boardroom before anyone could respond.

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”

The massive double doors swung open.

I didn’t walk inside.

I rolled into the room in a motorized wheelchair, both arms still wrapped in white casts. Eleanor stood beside me, Detective Ruiz followed close behind, and three FBI agents entered with us. Every conversation stopped instantly.

Adrian’s champagne glass slipped from his fingers and shattered across the marble floor.

“Lena?”

“You should still be in intensive care.”

“You’re confused.”

“You suffered severe brain trauma.”

“Someone call her doctors!”

I looked directly into his eyes.

“The only trauma I’m suffering from…”

“…is realizing I spent twelve years married to a murderer.”

Vanessa immediately shouted for security.

“Security!”

“Remove these intruders!”

Ruiz calmly stepped forward.

“Security is currently being interviewed by the Department of Justice.”

He nodded toward an FBI technician, who connected a laptop to the enormous display at the front of the boardroom.

A familiar recording filled the room.

“Once the brakes fail…”

“…the trust transfers.”

“She’ll be gone before the auditors arrive.”

The directors stared at Adrian in horror.

His face turned completely white.

“That’s fake!”

“It’s AI!”

“You can’t prove anything!”

I interrupted before he could continue.

“We haven’t even reached the best part yet.”

I turned toward Eleanor.

“The thirty-two percent you spent years searching for…”

“…would you like to explain where it actually was?”

Eleanor calmly placed several legal documents onto the conference table.

“The Sterling Trust was never in Switzerland.”

“It remained under Lena’s control the entire time.”

“Yesterday she didn’t surrender her voting rights.”

“She signed a sworn affidavit in front of federal agents documenting your attempt to steal them.”

Then I looked directly at Vanessa.

“And the shell companies?”

“The mechanic?”

“The offshore accounts?”

“I found every payment.”

“As it turns out…”

“…a forensic accountant is very good at following money.”

Vanessa slowly turned toward Adrian, panic spreading across her face.

“You said you handled the mechanic!”

“You said she was too stupid to notice the brake fluid leak!”
