“Brad, what happened?”
He finally admitted that six months earlier, he’d been involved in a car accident.
“You told me you fell down the stairs,” I said.
“I know. I suffered a head injury, but I couldn’t remember the crash. The police explained what happened afterward.”
According to the report, his car had left the road without another vehicle being identified.
I looked again at the mysterious phone.
A tiny red indicator was blinking.
It appeared to be recording us.
“Who’s listening?” I demanded.
Brad glanced toward the window.
“That’s what I’ve been trying to remember.”
A car engine suddenly started outside.
I rushed to the window and saw a dark sedan with tinted windows pulling away from across the street.
Chloe looked terrified.
“They know we’re talking.”
“Who?”
She didn’t answer.
Instead, she opened the brown envelope and removed a photograph.
It showed me asleep in my own bedroom.
The timestamp read October 14, 2:13 a.m.
That was a night Brad had supposedly been working late.
I turned the photograph over.
Four words were written on the back.
She remembers everything.
Brad recognized the handwriting.
“It’s mine,” he whispered. “But I don’t remember writing it.”
The black phone vibrated again.
A new message appeared.
Ask Chloe what happened that night.
I turned toward her.
She began crying.
“Emily, I was in the car when Brad crashed.”
I stared at her.
Then she added something even more disturbing.
“You were there too. You were unconscious in the back seat.”
Part 3: My Husband’s Mistress Admitted I Was in His Car Accident—Then She Named Someone Who Had Been Dead for Eight Years
I stared at Chloe, struggling to understand what she’d just confessed.
Six months earlier, Brad had been involved in a car accident. Now his secretary was telling me she’d been in the vehicle with him—and that I’d been unconscious in the back seat.
“That’s impossible,” I whispered. “I would remember.”
Chloe shook her head.
“You suffered a head injury, Emily. Brad did too.”
Brad looked equally stunned.
“You told me I was driving alone.”
“I lied,” Chloe admitted.
I tightened my grip on the mysterious phone.
“Then tell us what really happened.”
Chloe explained that another vehicle had been following them that night. Brad hadn’t simply lost control of his car.
“Who was following us?” I demanded.
She hesitated before answering.
“Your father.”
My entire body went cold.
“My father died eight years ago.”
Brad lowered his eyes.
“I thought I saw his car.”
“The old green sedan?” I asked.
He nodded.
My father had owned that car until shortly before his death. I could still picture him behind the steering wheel.
But Chloe insisted the driver wasn’t my father.
“It was Brad’s brother.”
I turned toward my husband.
“You don’t have a brother.”
Brad sat heavily on the edge of the bed.
“I did. His name was Daniel.”
I’d been married to Brad for years, yet I’d never heard that name.
“He died when we were teenagers,” Brad continued.
Chloe placed another photograph on the bed.
It showed two boys standing beside the familiar green sedan. One was unmistakably Brad.
The other looked remarkably similar.
“Daniel didn’t die,” Chloe said. “He disappeared.”
Brad stared at the photograph.
“That’s not what our family told us.”
According to Chloe, Daniel had returned six months earlier, shortly before the accident.
He’d discovered that their father had secretly maintained another family. After their father’s death, Daniel began searching for documents he believed would prove he’d been cheated out of an inheritance.
Brad had obtained those documents first.
Daniel wanted them.
“The night of the crash, Brad was planning to tell you everything,” Chloe explained. “He asked me to bring the paperwork.”
“That’s why you were in the car?”
She nodded.
“And I was there because Brad wanted to tell me the truth?”
“Yes.”
Before Brad could explain everything, another vehicle forced their car off the road.
I suffered a head injury, while Brad sustained a serious concussion that affected his memory.
Afterward, Daniel disappeared again.
But Chloe believed he’d continued watching us, hoping to frighten Brad into surrendering the documents.
I looked at the photograph of myself sleeping in my bedroom.
“And this?”
“Someone wanted you to question your own memory.”
The hidden phone, threatening messages, and strange photographs had apparently been part of that intimidation.
I remembered the pharmacy bottle bearing my name.
“What about the medication?”
Chloe explained that a harmless medication had been placed inside an old prescription container with a misleading label.
It had been another attempt to make me believe something was wrong with my mind.
I turned toward Brad.
“So you weren’t actually planning to divorce me?”
He shook his head.
“No.”
“And Chloe?”
He looked ashamed.
The affair had happened, but the secret meetings had later involved the documents and Daniel’s threats.
I could understand his fear without excusing his betrayal.
“You let me believe I wasn’t enough,” I told him.
Tears filled his eyes.
“I know. I should have trusted you.”
For months, I’d believed my marriage was falling apart because Brad wanted another woman.
Now I knew someone had also been manipulating our lives through threats, surveillance, and secrets.
But understanding the danger didn’t erase what my husband had done.
And I wasn’t ready to forgive him.
Part 4: My Husband Finally Confessed Why He Lied About His Mistress—But His Apology Couldn’t Erase the Betrayal
After Chloe revealed the truth about Daniel, I sat on the edge of our bed, trying to understand how so many secrets had existed inside my own marriage.
Brad had hidden a brother from me, lied about a serious car accident, and allowed me to believe his relationship with Chloe was the reason he’d stopped loving me.
Now I knew his memory problems were real, and someone had been threatening us for months.
But none of that changed the fact that he’d betrayed my trust.
“So you weren’t planning to leave me?” I asked.
