You put my suitcase on the porch and handed me divorce papers in front of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was a brief pause, and when Daniel spoke again his voice had changed from anger to that careful tone he used whenever he wanted to make something unreasonable sound administrative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis doesn\u2019t have to get ugly, Emily.
