Clara\u2019s heart ached with a violent intensity; she wanted nothing more than to run across the room, scoop the child into her arms, and tell her everything would be okay. But she stayed anchored to her spot, her hand resting over her womb.<\/p>\n
The judge asked gently, \u201cCan you tell the courtroom what you told me out in the hallway?\u201d<\/p>\n
Lily swallowed hard, her small voice barely carrying over the microphones. \u201cDaddy said I had to be completely quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Julian closed his eyes. Marcus went completely still beside Clara.<\/p>\n
