Hours after giving birth, my parents walked into my hospital room, rejected my newborn son, and demanded that I surrender my company shares before I even left the bed. They believed I had no one to protect us. Then the father of my baby walked through the door, and everything they had carefully planned began to fall apart…

Part 1 – My Parents Rejected My Newborn Before They Even Learned Who His Father Was

The first face my newborn son saw outside the delivery room should have belonged to family. Instead, my parents looked at him with open disgust, as though the nurse had placed something shameful in my arms instead of a perfect little boy. Leo slept peacefully against my chest, unaware that the people standing at the foot of my hospital bed had already decided he wasn’t worthy of their love.

“We will never acknowledge a fatherless child,” my mother announced coldly.

My father folded his arms beside her.

“And we will never hold that baby.”

The recovery room fell silent except for the steady rhythm of the heart monitor.

I lowered my eyes to Leo’s tiny hand wrapped around my finger.

Oddly enough…

I didn’t feel devastated.

I felt relieved.

“Then don’t,” I answered quietly.

My mother blinked in surprise.

She had expected tears.

Begging.

Perhaps an apology for embarrassing the Ashford family.

For the past nine months she had told relatives that the baby’s father had abandoned me and that I would eventually give the child up for adoption once reality finally caught up with me.

She had never once bothered asking who the father actually was.

To my parents, I remained the quiet daughter who preferred spreadsheets to cocktail parties while my older brother, Garrick, was destined to inherit Ashford Development Group. They believed I had left the company because I wasn’t ambitious enough.

The truth was very different.

I resigned after uncovering missing funds, fake invoices, and shell companies connected directly to Garrick. When I tried warning my father, he dismissed everything with a single sentence.

“You’ve always been too emotional for business.”

So I stopped arguing.

Instead…

I copied every record I could legally access.

My mother’s perfume filled the room as she stepped closer to my bed.

“You’re going to sign over your shares today.”

She placed a folder beside me.

“Garrick has a buyer waiting.”

“After this disgrace, you are no longer fit to represent our family.”

There it was.

The real reason they had come to the hospital.

Not to meet my son.

Not to see whether I had survived childbirth.

They wanted my shares.

Dad calmly added,

“Sign now, and we’ll provide you with a modest allowance.”

“Refuse…”

“And you’ll raise that child completely alone.”

I almost laughed.

Before I went into labor, my attorney had warned me they might try exactly this. My twelve-percent ownership stake was the only obstacle preventing Garrick from taking complete control of Ashford Development before a major investment deal closed.

“You should leave,” I said.

My mother’s expression hardened.

“You’re hardly in a position to give orders.”

Before either of them could continue, the recovery-room door opened.

A tall man wearing a dark overcoat walked inside, accompanied by the hospital administrator and two attorneys. The moment he saw Leo, the tension disappeared from his face. He gently kissed my forehead before carefully touching our son’s tiny cheek.

Then he looked toward my parents.

Everything about him changed.

My father’s arms slowly fell to his sides.

My mother’s face turned white.

She whispered his name before she could stop herself.

“Ethan… Ethan Laurent?”

Without taking his eyes off them, Ethan spoke calmly.

“You were saying something…”

He glanced lovingly at Leo sleeping in my arms.

“…about my child being fatherless?”

Part 2 – They Tried to Steal My Company Before I Even Left the Hospital

My father recovered first.

He forced a thin smile that fooled absolutely no one.

“Mr. Laurent,” he said, “this is simply a private family misunderstanding.”

Ethan didn’t even glance at him.

“No.”

“It became my concern the moment you threatened Audrey and my son.”

The room fell silent again.

For months, Garrick had proudly told anyone who would listen that Laurent Capital was preparing to invest eighty million dollars into Ashford Development’s luxury riverfront project. My parents had already begun spending money they expected that partnership to bring.

What they never knew…

Was that Ethan and I had met long before this day.

His investment firm hired me as an independent forensic consultant during the preliminary audit of Ashford Development. We kept our relationship private because the investigation required complete confidentiality, and because, for the first time in my life, I wanted something untouched by my family’s manipulation.

My mother stared between us in disbelief.

“You expect us to believe you’re together?”

Ethan calmly picked up the share-transfer agreement she had placed beside my hospital bed. After reading only a few pages, he handed it to one of the attorneys standing behind him.

The attorney adjusted his glasses.

“Prepared immediately after childbirth.”

“No independent legal representation.”

“Substantially below market value.”

He looked directly at my parents.

“This appears highly coercive.”

Dad’s confidence began slipping.
